Not often seen 17th century Buddha from the north of Lao in Xong Khuong style especially dressed for festivals, it has some old repairs ( please refer to photos) someone has spent a lot of time after casting decorating him with silver and it has traces of gold gilding. its a great piece.

17th century praying Buddha from Lao the design has been influenced from Ayutthaya period (Thailand), this Buddha has good detail and is nicely dressed with royal clothes and its very heavy for its size due to the fact the core has been lead fill and has traces of gold gilding….this design is getting harder to find and I really like this one.

17th century Lao reclining Buddha (not often seen position) the design of this buddha has been influenced by Ayutthaya period (Thailand) it has heavy casting in very good condition for its age it has black pearl eyeballs with mother of pearl eye whites .This particular buddha is in the sleeping position some reclining Buddhas have just enter Nirvana and some are in the death position which depends on the the feet and arm positions

2 x 19th century Buddhas. Buddhas of this size are generally made using a number of different materials wood, bronze, quarts crystal, lead, clay and silver and generally were given as gifts to the local temples and they were placed in small compartments located on the inner walls of the temples. The local people bought the Buddhas made from different materials depending on how rich they were, these 2 Buddhas definitely have some age to them and the wood is almost petrified.

Shown is a beautifully made crown buddha with strong Lanna (Thai) influences and known in Lao as Xongkhoung Buddha and it is mainly worshiped at festivals. It has black pearl eyes and mother of pearl eye whites. His fingers and toes are adorned with rings and his right arm is decorated with 4 arm bands. The altar he is sitting on represents an open lotus flower. This is one of the BEST Laotian buddha that you will ever see containing very heavy casting and lots of traces of gold gilding….. A great piece!!
